Case Study

This project was commissioned by my friend Andrés, an musician based out of Bakersfield, CA, for an upcoming UK show he’s performing in December of 2024. The ADMAT (advertising material) combined custom illustrations and animation, created using Procreate and After Effects, with a focus on social media platforms. Additionally, I designed a static version for use in other promotional materials.

Sketch

This project initially centered on a collection of UK tour dates, tentatively titled ‘The Casual Bender Tour.’ During the sketch phase, I developed concepts around this name. However, the flyer was later reworked to promote a single UK show, replacing the tour name with the show date and venue. Attached is the original sketch I sent to Andrés for approval. We exchanged ideas and feedback through emails and text messages, refining the design with each round of revisions.

Animation

After completing the illustration in Procreate, I imported all the layers into After Effects to begin the animation process. Working within a limited budget that allowed only a few hours for animation, I focused on using camera movements to bring the poster to life. This approach added depth and energy without requiring extensive animation for each individual layer.

Conclusion

A big thanks to Andrés for bringing me on board for this project. There’s immense potential in using animation to promote music, and I enjoy exploring how these two worlds can complement and support each other.
